direct and teach the weekly junior classes
at the Lorena Ochoa Golf Academy at Goose
Creek Golf Club.
I believe juniors learn best in a small
group setting with positive, fun, and
interactive coaching. That is why I keep the
coach-to-student ratio small, have players
of the same ages and skill levels learn
together, and change the games and drills

As we get
older, thereíll come a point when we slowly
start to lose strength and flexibility. As a
result, weíll lose clubhead speed and start
hitting the golf ball shorter. It happens to
everyone and itís really no big deal.
In truth, older golfers achieve far better
results when they forget about distance and
focus on improving their accuracy off the
tee and developing a better short game.
Senior Club Fitting
While every senior golfer is different,
benefitted through making one or more of
the following changes:
Playing a higher lofted
driver - to add carry
distance and gain accuracy.
● Cutting the driver shaft
- to gain accuracy and improve the
quality of contact.
● Replace 5 and 6-irons with
- to gain distance and increase trajectory.
● Replace 2, 3, or 4-irons (or hybrids) with
higher lofted fairway metals
- to gain distance and increase
● Add a wedge
to provide more full swing options
when within 100 yards of the green.
● Install larger grips - to
relieve the tension in the hands and
● Use wide sole lower center
of gravity irons -
to help those with slower clubhead speed
and sweeping swing
motion gain trajectory.
coaching seniors, I prefer a series of
shorter 30-minute sessions for $30 each.
I like to teach seniors how to better
manage their natural swing motion, how
to develop a more effective short game,
how to improve their course management,
and how to practice more efficiently.
Iíve found that most golfers Ė
regardless of their age - can
significantly lower their average score
through acquiring a better understanding
of the game, learning how to better
manage their own swing, and applying the
principles of purposeful practice.
